Monster

The main news from the Olympic chickens is this monster egg laid today Saturday 11th April. Ouch. We're wondering how this chicken (the white one we think) knew it was easter? Answers on a postcard please.

We had our very first 'no egg' day last week with 54 eggs delivered since last post (total 184) and our friends have taken the plunge and now have three chickens. Brilliant.

  1. How big was your 'monster egg'? We recently had one at 90g followed by one at 120g a couple of days later. The second one had a double yolk. Photos to go in the next day or so, hopefully.

  2. Hi Karin
We didn't actually weigh our egg but it was the same size as yours - 75cm. Must be the 'normal' size for oversized eggs!

  3. Did you say your Amber (White Star) laid it? It clearly isn't just something Warrens do, then, but am I right in thinking all your chickens are hybrids? In which case, perhaps it's something all/most hybrids are prone to.

It seemed obscenely large for our poor chicken and makes me wonder if the breeding of hybrids in itself is not too good for the resulting chickens.
